Two ships collide at the Port of Douala-Bonaberi

An official statement from the Port Authority of Douala reveals that on the night of 11 - 12 July 2026, at about 3:00 am, a maritime accident occurred at the level of buoy No. 20 on the channel of the Port of Douala-Bonaberi.  The collision was between two ships; MV Sea Honor, engaged in manoeuvres to leave the port, and MV Black Rhino, which was entering the port.

PAD declared there were no casualties; however, both ships incurred significant damage, leading to the temporary obstruction of the navigation channel.  Preliminary observations reveal that the collision was caused by a loss of control of the helm of the MV Black Rhino.  A technical investigation has been opened to ascertain the exact circumstances of the accident and establish responsibilities.

At the end of clearance operations, the MV Sea Honor was taken into anchorage; meanwhile, the MV Black Rhino was steered aground along the red buoys, making a safe passage for other vessels.  The fifteen crew members were safely disembarked and cared for in accordance with safety procedures in force.

PAD’s Director General lauded the prompt response of the teams involved and reaffirmed PAD’s commitment to ensuring navigation safety, continuity of operations and the protection of the port environment.
