Cassava flour : Cameroon banks on local production for exports in Africa
Cameroon's Trade Minister Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana met with key players in the milling and baking industries in Yaoundé on 25 June 2025 with a view to promoting the use of cassava flour in bread production within the framework of the Integrated Import Substitution Plan (PIISAH).
With a stock of over 400 tonnes, this locally produced flour is a strategic lever to reduce wheat imports, with a blend ratio of 4 to 5% adopted for a gradual transition. Companies such as SOCOOPROMAN and PAFIC SARL support this initiative, bolstered by VAT exemption on locally produced flour.
Beyond domestic consumption, this approach is part of the AfCFTA dynamic, offering Cameroon the opportunity to position its agri-food products on a continental market of more than one billion consumers.
Support from the diaspora, through experts such as Raphaël Djine, reinforces this ambition by assisting local companies with training and fundraising.
Cameroon is transforming its bread into a vector for growth, exports and African integration.
